Do I need to use my PIN when I pay with my HyperRing?Updated 6 months ago
Using your PIN with your HyperRing depends on several factors, primarily the transaction amount and your bank's security policies:
PIN Requirements
1. Small Transactions:
- For transactions below your country's contactless limit (typically €25-€50 in Europe or equivalent)
- No PIN is usually required
- Simply tap your wearable on the payment terminal to complete the transaction
2. Larger Transactions:
- For amounts exceeding the contactless limit
- PIN is typically required
- Tap your wearable on the terminal, then enter your PIN on the terminal's keypad
- This is the same PIN you use with your physical payment card
3. Cumulative Transactions:
- After multiple consecutive contactless payments without PIN verification
- Many banks require PIN verification periodically as a security measure
- The number of transactions before PIN is required varies by bank
Other Considerations
- Terminal Capabilities: Some older terminals may always request a PIN regardless of the amount
- Bank Policies: Different banks implement different security policies
- International Use: Contactless limits and PIN requirements may vary by country
- First Use: Some banks require PIN entry on the first transaction after connecting your card
Important Notes
- Your wearable doesn't store your PIN - it's entered directly into the payment terminal
- The PIN you use is the same as your physical card's PIN
- You cannot change your PIN through the HyperRing Pay app - any changes must be made through your bank
- If you've forgotten your PIN, contact your bank for assistance
